the CHATTER
the YUM! HIS HERs
Round 1 Chef Brown:  screamed New Orleans! Creole praline was fantastic

Chef Clark:  presentation was outstanding, work of art, it was light, great flavors, street food on steroids

Chef Gilbert: sausage a surf and turf in roll, flavors went well together, slaw brought it to the next level. I’d love this in a roll

Chef DeLosso: this IS street food- it’s a corn dog, the fat in the mortadella had a buttery texture, sweet corn taste with the meat was great. All day finger food

Chef Spinner: did not think I was going to like this- refreshing, flavors exploded

Chef Rosenthal:  I’m a pork guy, I love pork. I was in pork heaven, looked like pot pie, I coiuld have eaten this for breakfast lunch dinner and dessert

Chef Clark’s 5 spiced bacon was awesome!Chef Rosenthal’s memphis pie had the most flavorful pork I’ve ever had.

Chef Spinners fish taco melted in my mouth! The lemongrass coconut sauce had the most unique of flavors. I want more!!

All the rest were really good, but i wanted to just mention the pieces that really stood out to me.

Round 2 Chef Brown: this was great, you can’t go wrong, to me this was one of the ultimate street foods
Chef Senat: I love sliders, I love pork, the spices all hit you at one time, easy to handle, good for street food, full of flavorChef Vernick: refreshing, I love ginger, chicken was not dry cooked perfectly, all flavors went togetherChef Olexy: easy to hold, good for street food, very rich dish, bold mushrooms-powerfulChef Landau: like a wrap, amazing. You thought you were eating a meat taco! The flavors melded so well together, I could not stop eating this. If there were 2 or 3 of these in front of me, all would be gone!

Chef Turney: wrapped like a taco in lettuce, reminiscent of a falafel, all those great flavors, refreshing and unique

What the heck is a jungle nut? lol..I really enjoyedChef Senat’s tenderloin. Had great mixture of flavor and was moistVedge did it again! I hid what was in this taco from my friend and asked her what she thought was in it, and she said “which meat is that? beef?”
Chef Turney’s was my top 3. It was hard to decide. Loved the creativity in how you can use the lettuce to wrap it and enjoy all the flavors at once, or as a kebab. The chickpea salad with yogurt- i want that sauce!! YUMM!
Food Trucks I love food trucks! I love judging their contests. I can’t lie, I didn’t want to ruin my palate for the Chef Throwdown. I did have a few bites of pizza and pizza is my favorite food, what can i say? Holy wow there is a pizza oven in the truck!! How cool is that. And did they really just put an egg with mushrooms on a pizza!Nomad Pizza was great.

Jackies Food Truck put out my favorite: Habanero Ginger Pork Meatball over ginger sesame slaw w/Sirarcha Aoli and honey soy reduction = WOW!! has me still craving sesame…

Garlic Jalapeno Infused Vodka aka GarPenoKa

Garlic Jalapeno Infused Vodka

Garlic Jalapeno Infused Vodka aka GarPenoKa by HERs

So I was thinking to myself one day, Self, what are your 2 favorite flavors and what is your favorite drink?

Self replied Well Jenn- garlic, jalapeno and vodka

BOOM- this creation was born….

photo(44)

flourish-graphicsfairy006bvfinal

Ingredients for Garpenoka by HERS

  • Vodka – Svedka and Stoli are my preference in vodka (i picked Svedka bc it was cheaper and if it came out bad, I would not be as annoyed)
  • Garlic – 5 to 8 cloves, peeled with both ends cut off
  • Jalapenos – medium size, sliced in strips and remove seeds
  • Pickle – dill, extra garlic, also sliced

flourish-graphicsfairy006bvfinal

Assembly Required:

  • Peel the garlic and cut the ends
  • Slice jalapenos and remove seeds – WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER and DO NOT remove contact lenses for at least 5 hours after touching the pepper. Or you can put on gloves….. didn’t have those, lesson learned.
  • Remove jar of pickles from fridge. Eat one. Remove another and put aside. Place lid back on jar. Put jar back in fridge.
  • Place nicely on dish to display and take picture
  • Open vodka, pour a shot for yourself and audience
  • Place ingredient, minus vodka, into the jar         WARNING: DO NOT squeeze the pepper to fit!! It will squirt juice everywhere… need i say more.
  • After all ingredients are in add the vodka
  • Store in dark place for 2 weeks
  • Daily flip the bottle  a few times to mix

HIS Reaction:  “Really….. whats next? Vodka filet?? Vodka broccoli??”

AFTER 2 weeks………….. come back to my blog and see!!!

Introduced their newest
brew:
Churchville Lager (a Vienna style Lager)

HERs grew up in Southampton, PA (next town over from Churchville) and has been going to the Churchville INN since she was a little girl. HERs notoriously eats the ribs because they are THE BEST!  There has not been one to compare to the flavor of the bbq sauce and meat.  There was a fire a few years ago and they have since rebuilt to a more modern decor and a WHOLE LOTTA CRAFT BEER!

I really enjoyed this beer. This to me was the perfect football sunday beer. Not too hoppy at all.. Full of flavor and notes of vanilla. Almost creamy but everything you want from a lager. This had a toasty malt flavor and a beautiful amber color, crisp finish

HIS and HERs decided to check out the newer brewery on Main Street in Yardley. HERs lived in Yardley for a few years and they both love the quaint town.

the DECOR! HIS HERs
the Look Rustic, upscale Industrial look. The wood burning oven was BEAUTIFUL. All copper. The kitchen and dining area were divided by wrought iron bars. This used to be an old bank. This is NOT your normal brewery.. Modern interpenetration of the prohibition era. Loved the look and feel. The over-sized lanterns as chandeliers were fantastic. The heavy iron chairs were molded to your butt and very comfy. I enjoyed being able to see inside the kitchen. Very open and friendly atmosphere. They kept with the old bank/vault visual. When you walk in there are safety deposit boxes lining the entrance and a gate. Unique and creative.

the YUM!
HIS HERs
photo Small menu, but a very nice variety. The Menu was very refreshing. Far from the standard pub grub. This was gourmet. They had beet salad with goat cheese and a ‘hop-infused beer vinaigrette”The lamb meatballs caught my eye right away.. What is Brown Sugar Buffalo pizza!!!??INNOVATIVE!

Caprese Salad

Caprese Salad

The presentation was colorful and artistically laid out on this wooden pallet. This was a beautifully done Caprese salad. Fresh ingredients, excellent balsamic vinegar. And fresh herbs. I was so excited to see this on the menu. This is my go-to appetizer for myself. I asked to add the prosciutto because that is what i do at home. The flavors and drizzle of the balsamic took this dish to the next level. The freshness of the ingredients stood out. Local and fresh.. what is better!?!

Lamb meatballs

Lamb meatballs

Wow! This appetizer was amazing. I could have ordered 3 of these and had this as my entree. The lamb was impeccably seasoned. And the chive-mint cream brought out all of the flavors of the lamb. Lamb is one of my favorite meats. As soon as I saw this on the menu I went nuts! I never expected what came out.First, i always enjoy my lamb with mint jelly. Somehow the mint brings out the flavor of the lamb. This chive-mint cream with the arugula and lamb and apple…. what the heck apple! It all was an enjoyable meeting in my mouth. The lamb meatball itself was fantastic by itself, paired with the rest it rocked!
photo(5) This was a good pizza. But it could have been a GREAT pizza. The ingredients were fresh. The cheese was just enough, not too much. And the fresh cut basil really brought the flavors together. We ordered this pizza drizzles with balsamic vinegar, which tied everything together.I had an issue with the dough. I love a thin crust, this pizza was very thin. But, the dough was dry, it cracked as i picked it up. This comes from cooking the pizza at too low of a temperature which tends to dry out the dough. I was surprised at the thin crust. The sauce won me over. It wasn’t sweet, very tomato-y strong flavor. The fresh chopped basil on top mixed well. The mozz wasn’t overpowering, very mild. Overall, i loved the sauce. The balsamic drizzle addes an UMPH to flavor.

photo(15) This to me screamed a Night at the Oscars. Very creative with a real old Hollywood feel. This was the first cake design that struck me as thinking outside the box. I like the incorporation of the Oscar and the old school black and white reels. I enjoyed the design. They may have played it a little safe, but safe outside the box, is still outside the box.
photo(17) It was incredibly moist with just the right hint of lemon. I love this cake! Student, #14, it was very lemony, very heavy and creamy without being overpowering.. not too overly sweet, lemony hints that did not over power. And yummy vanilla finish.

Peanut Butter Mousse Cake

It was sort of like a peanut butter parfait i guess.. uhh.. good crunchy peanuts, uhh a little bit of cake inside, very very peanut buttery and not to overly sweet. I think it was a soft peanut butter flavor, almost creamy. Were those chocolate chips? Not overpowering. The heavy cake inside complimented the strong peanut-y taste. LOVE this.. Very creative in the parfait glass..
They won Cake?? I thought it was a bunch of cheese…. Not sure what the cheese depiction of the cake had to do with the actual flavors OR about movies, but hey, I love cheese so who’s complaining.. Not me!
photo(31) I tried to Photo Bomb this pic but I was too late LOL This is Bob and I.. enjoying our Rose’ with cake.
I gain 20 lbs just looking at this Cake How cool is this!! This is a cake.. My favorite thing to eat at the movies are Good n Plenty’s.. HIS hates licorice… ALL MINE!
photo(20) I loved this cake!!!! it was sweet and buttery I was in popcorn heaven This was okay. Interesting, the cake actually tasted like popcorn. HIS loved it….. We differ with our opinions of desserts.
photo(28) photo 3 photo 2 photo 1 I’m not a wine drinker but these wines were fantastic they had a Sauvignon Blanc with a beautiful Grapefruit flavor that was amazing and their Merlot was off the charts HOLY WINE LOVE FEST!!The guys at the booth were great! Very friendly and knowledgable. The Cakebread Merlot- Now one of my top 10 favorite wines of all time.. Very cherry nose, deep red satiny texture and a smooth lingering softness in the mouth. Creamy chocolate with slight spice. MORE PLEASE!
The Sauvignon Blanc was from California and I usually do not like SB’s from Cali. I prefer New Zealand SB’s such as Kim Crawford and Sileni. But this one was very good. Fruitier than most Sauv’s, nice bold grapefruit flavors and had citrus with the crispness of a good Sauv. Will def drink again.
photo(21) was a little on the dry side for me but Jenn Loved it I loved this! This had dark chocolate layer, then cake, white vanilla cream layer than more cake. Powdered cocoa on top was a perfect topping with the creamy layers.
photo(22) This Cake scared me so I stayed away from the table lol… these cupcakes were too sweet for me like Jenn im not a big sweets person. but I love horror films so I loved the design These guys had many different flavors of cupcakes. I tried the mint cream on top of chocolate. Forget which one HIS had. Very minty and sugary. Little too sweet for my taste, but then again, I am not a sweet person. Their creativity with the different flavors was nice. Good variety!
photo(23) cute simple design This was the first table when you walk in.
photo(24) The artistry on this cake was breath taking it took me 5 mins of staring at it to appreciate all the detail that went into this cake.. BRAVO!! How rocking is this! Its a cake and lit up and the pendulum on the clock moved! A+++ for effort and creativity. This was from Truly Custom Cakery in Warminster, PA. The won for Best Artistry… Of Course!!
photo(26) Great Cake love the open theater and the wizard of oz theme YUMMMMMM… the carrot cake had so many different festive flavors! It was thick and gooey and wanted more..
photo(27) I love Carrot cake and this one was incredible I had to walk away or I could have eaten the entire table See above.. LOVE IT!!

Bourbon Tavern Spruce Light flavor and very enjoyable.. Enjoyed the unique flavors this beer offers. Dark, cloudy, amber color, crisp flavor. Bourbon wasn’t overpowering. Vanilla undertones, slight spice notes.. Very drinkable! Cloudy coffee color… strong taste of pine and outdoors.. not a fan..
Love Stout “One of my favorite beers, creamy smooth.. Roasty malt flavor. I love it!” Smooth, slightly creamy but not overly creamy like a milk stout. Dark, not too sweet chocolatey. Not heavy. Dark Guinness like color look.. super smooth… subdued rich flavor… sublet hint of cocoa and coffee.. love it
Trubbel de Yards “This is a little bitter. Not my type of beer. Wasn’t so hoppy, harsher flavor for me” 9.3% ABV Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Dark, not too heavy, strong after taste that lingers. Medium bitterness, good spice- not overpowering, crisp.. Toffee flavors are heavier than chocolate. Well balanced.

Table Cell The pork burger was cooked perfect. Very moist. The chipotle cream cheese had a rich deep spicy flavor. The cabbage lent a beautiful crispness to the smoothness of the cheese. The flavors were all very bold and mixed fantastically. Surprising to the palate and made me want more. The creamy, spicy slaw brought it all together. The burger itself was seasoned slightly, not overdone. The meat flavors were able to come out and marry with the rest. LOVED IT! gimme another bite….. and a scooping of the slaw on the side… or in my mouth! delicious, just the right amount of spice

the YUM! HIS HERs Lauren
Table Cell This is not a burger with pastrami on top. This IS a pastrami burger. All of the characteristics of a hot pastrami sandwich, with the great texture of a burger. This is a 4 out of 5 star for me. And lets not forget 2 pieces of marbled rye bread. Hello! Heaven.. Holy pastrami! Gotta love pastrami to enjoy this, and i DO! Was surprise that it wasn’t extremely salty. They managed to incorporate all the pastrami heavy sweet luxury without the saltiness that is common. Flavor kick in the butt! Plated and sandwiched well with the marbled rye and swiss. The kraut offered the offset of flavors. CRAZY GOOD!

The Pork-a-Pocolypse Oh My God! This, to me, is hands down, the perfect all time burger. The flavors in this burger are difficult to describe bc everything in there is heavenly. Again, a perfectly cooked burger, with pork belly which was cooked to absolute perfection. You have truly died and gone to pork heaven. This is my 5 out of 5 star burger. What the heck is THAT? is that bacon?!? (takes bite)Oh my, that was an unbelievable explosion of taste in my mouth. Smokey to the right amount. Messy in all the greatest of ways. (does not want to share) This pork heart attack is AMAZING!

We went to The Drake Tavern this evening with our friend Oliver. We are new to the area and excited to explore! The Drake was rated pretty well on Yelp and a few other sites. HIS- Chipotle Guacamole and Cheddar Burger
(No burger, sub chicken
No bread)

the Yum! HIS HERs
Chipotle Chicken Chicken was grilled perfectly, it was moist with a nice char flavor
Guac and cheddar went perfect together with the fried crispy onions, none of the flavors were overpowering, they all blended perfectly. It came with a small side of coleslaw and 3 pickles. Although the slaw was good, the dish deserved a more substantial side.
I enjoyed the dish. The onions brought it all together and the sauce drizzled over was yummy. Good flavors

HERs- Samurai Tuna
Grilled Sesame Tuna over fried spinach and wasabi mash, topped with asian sauce (on the side)

the Yum! HIS HERs
Samurai Tuna Tuna was cooked beautifully. The combination of the tuna with the Asian sauce and the wasabi potatoes was a symphony of pleasures. Had me yearning to come back and order THAT dish. Loved the sesame coating, very heavily coated. Cooked very rare in the center and seared well on the sides. I liked a little of the wasabi mashed with the tuna then dipped in the sauce, which was similar to a soy. I actually ate it all.. thats not norm for me.

Chicken Medley Very good. Didn’t knock my socks off. I would have been happy ordering it, wouldn’t look forward to ordering again. i was actually going to order this but I make dishes similar so I chose the tuna. Very yummy. The roasted peppers were great and the balsamic drizzle added a sweetness that the dish needed. Mayyyy try and add this to my Saltimbocca.

the Yum! HIS HERs
Firestone Double Jack Didn’t try HERs beer bc they described it being very hoppy. HERs knows i despise a hoppy beer. So I drank the O’Hara’s Stout. That was really creamy and smooth, very enjoyable. Very good! Enjoyed the fizzy carbonation. Nice flavor, very grapefruit and malty mouth to begin and fruity, almost lemon finish. Strong malt but not overpowering.
